Xbox and PlayStation Twitch channels breached at Gamescom, archive loses highlights and past broadcasts

At the ongoing Gamescom event, the Twitch channels for Xbox, PlayStation and eSports League were compromised. A third party started posting unauthorized offensive messages to each channel’s profiles.

Someone altered archived streams on the Xbox, PlayStation, and ESL Twitch channels with offensive messages, including racist and homophobic slurs. The person also took a jab at Microsoft’s exclusivity deal for Rise of the Tomb Raider. Furthermore, fake information, such as announcements for new Gears of War and Fallout games, were posted.

The person is believed to have got access to a logged-in computer for Microsoft, Sony, and the ESL, believes a spokesperson for Twitch. "We're deleting the offensive VODs as soon as we find them and are alerting individual teams at the venue," he said.

The Xbox and PlayStation accounts seem to have been affected the most, as neither of the channels are featuring highlights and past broadcasts in the archive. "As a precautionary measure, we temporarily removed highlights and past broadcasts for those channels since it's in the early hours of the morning in Cologne".
